The 'Minecraft' Movie Will Now Be Directed By

The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has been given a new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett is now on board to write and direct the long-awaited film that was initially scheduled to be released in May of this year. Production has been delayed due to director changes. In  PREMIUMEBOOKS.NET , Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) was originally scheduled to direct the film however, he quit the project in August. He was replacing Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) who quit in 2014.

Sollett directed 2002's Raising Victor Vargas and 2008's Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. He's also received acclaim for his work on the short film Five Feet High and Rising. Minecraft's developer Mojang is said to be still working on the project.

Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Minecraft in 2014. Now, the question is whether Minecraft is still able to draw the same number of viewers as it did a few years back. It's unclear when the movie could be released at this point however, with a director in place again, maybe it can be back on the right path.
